The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) is reaching out to the youth of today, presenting opportunities for them to dive headfirst into the world of transportation. With a focus on fostering the next generation of industry leaders, MoDOT has thrown open the doors for students across the Show-Me State to apply for its 2026 Youth Transportation Conference (YTC), set to take place in Jefferson City this summer.
According to the MoDOT's announcement, the academic event will run from July 6-10, hosted on the grounds of Lincoln University. This hands-on conference emphasizes the practical application of STEM education—tying classroom theory to the tangible feats of transportation and engineering. While the workshops on bridge building and design offer a glimpse into the foundational aspects of infrastructure, sessions on public administration and safety keep one eye on the wheel of governance and public welfare. Space is limited, and 40 students, ranging from incoming high school freshmen to outgoing seniors, will have the chance to secure a seat. All applicants must throw their hats in the ring before the April 24 deadline.
Activities at YTC go beyond the basics of textbook learning. MoDOT's website lays out an itinerary that includes field trips, inside looks at MoDOT offices, and encounters with the many faces that fuel the department's diverse divisions. Here, students are not just visitors but actively engage with engineers, planners, and professionals who drive Missouri's transportation narrative forward.
Students interested in participating must submit an application along with a letter of recommendation. The conference also provides opportunities for networking with MoDOT staff and learning about careers in transportation and civil engineering.
Additional information about the Youth Transportation Conference, including application guidelines and resources, is available on the event’s official website. The conference will be held at Lincoln University and is open to Missouri students interested in transportation-related fields.
