Wild, the buzzy CBD coffee-and-cocktail concept that turned hemp-infused drinks and a jungle-style speakeasy into a Montrose calling card, has quietly shut down its Westheimer lounge after three years. Staff confirmed in replies to customer comments on Instagram that the Montrose location’s final day of service was last Sunday. The Heights storefront stays in the game, leaving this stretch of Westheimer open for the neighborhood’s constantly shuffling restaurant roster.
Owners Broke the News on Instagram
According to Houston Chronicle, Wild shared the news in an Instagram post on Monday, telling followers, “Montrose, you were something special but at this time we have made the difficult decision to close our Westheimer location.” The outlet notes the post went on to thank the neighborhood and that staff later clarified in the comments that the last day of service was Sunday.
How Wild Built Its Local Niche
Wild debuted its first shop in the Heights in 2022, then moved into Montrose later that year by taking over the former UB Preserv space and turning it into a chef-driven, patio-friendly lounge, as reported by Eater Houston. The concept mixed specialty coffee, cocktails and a dispensary-style setup for hemp products. The company’s Wild Concepts site still lists only the Heights address as its operating storefront, signaling that shop will carry the flag for now.
Regulatory Headwinds for the THC Drink Scene
The Montrose closure lands as hemp- and THC-infused beverages face mounting regulatory uncertainty. A federal provision on the table would prohibit hemp products that contain more than 0.4 milligrams of THC per container, a shift local operators have warned could upend businesses built around infused drink menus. In a Houston Chronicle report last November, Wild’s owners and other Houston entrepreneurs said the proposed law could be a major headwind for hemp-focused concepts.
What’s Next for the Westheimer Space
The Montrose address, which previously housed UB Preserv before Wild moved in, now joins a growing list of neighborhood restaurant spaces that have flipped tenants in recent years. CultureMap Houston chronicled Wild’s opening and its chef-led menu when it first took over the site. For now, Montrose residents and hospitality watchers will be keeping an eye on listings to see which concept takes a run at the high-profile Westheimer storefront next.
