Downtown Mooresville is about to smell a whole lot like butter and chocolate. Crave Cookies is opening its first Carolinas bakery at 201 N. Church St., Suite 103, bringing the brand’s towering "deep-dish" cookies to town. The shop is celebrating its grand opening on Saturday with extended evening hours and a giveaway of 1,000 chocolate-chip cookies. Early tasters say the nearly two-inch treats have a crunchy edge and a molten center that lands somewhere between a cookie and a warm plated dessert.
According to Charlotte Observer, the Mooresville location is owned by Nekolle Eddie, Macie Mincey and Samonia Ngo and will be open Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. The Observer notes that the first 1,000 customers will walk away with a free chocolate chip cookie and that single cookies are priced at about $4.49, with a box of six running roughly $23.30. The paper’s reviewer sampled the lineup in advance and praised both the gooey centers and the way the cookies hold generous fillings without falling apart.
Crave describes its format as a "deep-dish" cookie, baked in a concave mold that creates an almost two-inch profile and what the company calls a "Crave Curve" that keeps fillings from spilling, according to its product description on Crave Cookies. A federal trademark application for the phrase "DEEP DISH COOKIES" is also listed in public records, per Justia Trademarks.
Local sweet-shop surge
Crave’s debut lands in the middle of a full-on cookie boom in the Charlotte region, with oversized, heavily loaded treats popping up in strip malls and main streets alike. Axios Charlotte and local TV outlets have been tracking the rise of these giant, dressed-up cookies, while national coverage from outlets such as The Philadelphia Inquirer points to the trend’s momentum far beyond North Carolina.
Menu drops and flavors
According to Crave Cookies, the brand typically runs two-week “drops” that rotate six new flavors at a time. The local business listing for the Mooresville shop, however, describes weekly flavor updates, per the Mooresville Chamber. Expect a mix of staples like milk chocolate chip, limited-run creations and a slate of signature loaded sodas that are designed to be sipped alongside a warm cookie.
Why Mooresville?
The ownership team told Charlotte Observer they picked downtown Mooresville after weighing several Charlotte-area neighborhoods, pointing to the walkable community vibe and nearby Liberty Park as key factors. The Mooresville storefront is Crave’s first in the Carolinas and is set up to function as both a neighborhood bakery and a pickup and delivery hub for warm, made-to-order cookies.
Lines are likely during opening weekend if you are trying to snag one of those giveaway cookies. The shop’s address is 201 N. Church St., Suite 103. For the latest hours and to see the current flavor drop before you head over, check the brand’s online ordering page or call the store.
