A Morrow man was arrested following threats that put Upson-Lee Elementary School on high alert last Friday, leading to a lockdown while deputies swept the school for safety. According to FOX 5 Atlanta, the suspect, identified as 31-year-old Demarcus Deon Spivey, was apprehended in Clayton County after a collaborative effort to track the source of the menacing calls which were placed to the school last Friday.
Spivey, who's now facing terroristic threats charges, allegedly claimed he was inside the school armed with a gun, a claim that instantly spurred officials into action to protect the students and staff within. Their swift response led to a lockdown, a thorough sweep of the facility, and eventually an all-clear with no injuries reported. Following the incident, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, alongside local enforcement from both Upson and Clayton counties, participated to ensure Spivey's capture, according to officials.
The details of the arrest, provided by 11Alive, include Spivey being taken into custody on a Sunday afternoon with warrants stemming from Upson County. Law enforcement officials, extending appreciation towards the collaborative support of the various agencies involved, have noted that additional charges against Spivey are anticipated as the investigation proceeds. While the motive behind the alarming call has yet to be unearthed, no direct connection between Spivey and the school has been confirmed.
