A January night out at a Racine Street restaurant turned into a burst of gunfire in the parking lot, and this week Mount Pleasant residents learned who prosecutors say were behind it. One person was wounded in the Jan. 18 shootout that authorities now link to rival southside and northside gangs, a clash that triggered a multiagency sweep and the recovery of dozens of firearms. Court filings and surveillance footage described in the criminal complaint indicate the confrontation started inside the restaurant before it spilled outside.
Prosecutors bring charges after January shooting
Racine County prosecutors charged eight men this week in connection with the Jan. 18 incident. Six are accused of firing shots, while two face gun-possession and bail-jumping counts. The arrests followed search and arrest warrants carried out Feb. 24 and Feb. 25, and investigators recovered 23 guns during the sweep, according to FOX6.
What the criminal complaint says about the scene
According to the criminal complaint described by prosecutors, surveillance video shows groups tied to the Dirty P’s (southside) and Northside For Life (NFL) inside the restaurant before a fight breaks out. The filing says the scene remained “civil” until Marcell Adams had a run-in with Divittin Hoskins and that Adams motioned “for someone to follow him outside” before gunfire erupted, the complaint alleges, as reported by FOX6.
Arrests, charges and bond amounts
Court records list the defendants along with the charges and bond amounts. Marcell Adams, 32, is charged with first-degree recklessly endangering safety, possession of a firearm by a felon and misdemeanor disorderly conduct, with bond set at $50,000. Jordan Brown, 21, faces a count of first-degree recklessly endangering safety, with bond set at $30,000. Darin Grandberry, 29, is charged with first-degree reckless injury, first-degree recklessly endangering safety and possession of a firearm by a felon, and his bond is set at $50,000.
Divittin Hoskins, 22, is charged with misdemeanor carrying a concealed weapon and five counts of felony bail jumping. Khyree Oliver, 22, and Dushawn Stokes, 23, face weapons and bail-jumping counts. Daeuzjaun-Luther Williams, 21, and Kamron Windham, 22, are charged with first-degree recklessly endangering safety and related firearms offenses. Those details come from court filings available via Wisconsin Circuit Court Access.
Investigators say the exchange was brief but intense
Prosecutors say the recorded exchange of gunfire lasted roughly 30 seconds and that the complaint indicates Grandberry fired the first shot that wounded the victim. Law-enforcement agencies involved in the Feb. 24 and 25 warrants included the Mount Pleasant Police Department, the FBI and the U.S. Marshals Service, and officers report recovering multiple long guns and handguns during searches.
Where the cases go from here
All eight defendants have made initial appearances in Racine County court and remain charged while prosecutors prepare the cases for further proceedings. Officials have not released a public statement about motive, and court filings are expected to be updated as the district attorney moves toward preliminary hearings.
