A Saturday afternoon collision at a busy northeast Las Vegas intersection sent six people to the hospital, including multiple juveniles, and shut down all northbound lanes of Nellis Boulevard at Carey Avenue for hours as investigators worked the scene. At least one child was reported in critical condition while traffic through the east valley crawled around the closure.
Closure and police response
The Regional Transportation Commission reported that the intersection was closed while emergency crews responded, and that all northbound lanes on Nellis were blocked. Police later confirmed that two vehicles were involved in the crash and that six people were transported to area hospitals, according to News 3 Las Vegas. Officers kept the northbound side of Nellis shut down as detectives documented the wreckage and collected evidence, and drivers were urged to steer clear and use alternate routes.
Who was hurt and what investigators say
The collision happened at about 1:20 p.m. and involved a Mercedes and a Honda, with two adults and four juveniles taken to local hospitals, per KTNV. Metro’s fatal-detail detectives have taken over the investigation, a step typically reserved for the most serious crashes.
FOX5 reported that one juvenile remained in critical condition while the other victims were listed as stable.
Traffic and neighborhood impact
Traffic camera feeds and RTC alerts showed heavy backups on surrounding streets while the lanes stayed closed. Authorities told News 3 Las Vegas the road would remain shut while detectives processed evidence. Drivers heading through the northeast valley were advised to delay trips or find different routes to avoid long delays.
Where this fits in a pattern
Nellis Boulevard has seen multiple serious wrecks in recent months, with extended closures and lengthy investigations becoming an all-too-familiar sight along the heavily traveled east-valley corridor, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal and coverage of a fatal late-night crash near Nellis AFB. Authorities have not released the names of those involved in Saturday’s crash or announced any charges. Anyone with information about the collision is asked to contact Metro investigators.
