Norman residents, it's that time of year again to clear out the clutter. The City of Norman website has announced its Residential Spring Clean-Up dates, allowing locals to dispose of bulky waste items piling up during those seasonal decluttering efforts. According to information released by the city's Utilities Department, collection will start on April 4 for customers with Monday polycart service and conclude on May 2 for those who have Friday service.
For those looking to rid their homes of cumbersome items, mark your calendars based on your regular trash pick-up day. Caught in the annual ritual of a spring clean-up, the city is facilitating ways for residents to hand off their bulkier refuse, ensuring it will end up in a landfill. On designated collection days, items need to be curbside no later than 7:30 a.m., as per the city's guidelines.
Household items that have outlived their stay can be set at the curb as early as one week before the collection day. Unfortunately, the Spring Clean-Up service does not handle yard waste, construction materials such as bricks or lumber, or hazardous items like tires and paint. For those looking to recycle items in decent shape, the city encourages reaching out to local charities, which may offer free pick-up services.
Residents carrying their waste directly can visit the Transfer Station, which will be open and free on Saturdays corresponding to the clean-up schedule. However, as the city explains, some materials—like demolition debris—may still incur a cost. "If visiting the Transfer Station, remember to take a current City of Norman utility bill," as the Utilities Department advises on the City's official website. The Station, found at 3901 S. Chautauqua, stands as a beacon for those seeking to do away with their waste personally.
It's important to note that commercial construction debris is not included in the Spring Clean-Up and will be charged the usual commercial disposal rate at the Transfer Facility. Also, household hazardous waste must be dropped off by appointment-only to the Household Hazardous Waste Facility.
