Oak Creek's plans to build a new fire station are now officially heating up, with the Common Council's unanimous green light shining on the project. Kueny Architects, LLC, headquartered in Pleasant Prairie, bagged the approved contract to start fleshing out the design and engineering blueprints, according to Oak Creek's municipal dispatch.

Out of nine solid proposals, Kueny triumphed after a rigorous vetting process led by the City Engineer, the Fire Chief, two Fire Department administrative staff, and later, four additional fire department figures brought in to grasp the essence of each firm during in-persons — a shared dance towards determining who best understood the city's vision and needs, reliability meshed with potential costs and a review of their past government projects across the Midwest.

Fire Chief Michael Kressuk confirmed Kueny's top spot, explaining, "We based our decision on several factors, including the firm’s experience, understanding of the project, the clarity of their approach, overall cost, ability to meet the proposed schedule, and references from past clients," as he revealed to the city's news hub. Kressuk praised the chosen architects for their understanding and clear vision, factors that ultimately deemed them most worthy of the task at hand.

The road map for this new firehouse blueprint, costed at $130,863 spans four phases: from the genesis of pre-design to the oversight of the actual construction, and City Administrator Andrew J. Vickers informed public that the outdated 1965 Fire Station #2 was becoming a dearer burden by the day—not aligning with Oak Creek's newer, sleeker operations, he stated in the city's announcement.

Essentials earmarked for this anticipated 9,500-square foot establishment include features like a drive-through apparatus floor with three bays, the possible addition of a community or training room, a zone dedicated to fitness, and individual dorm rooms for the bravery-bound. All this is structured while peering into the crystal ball, hoping to accommodate future growth and house up to six firefighters daily, manifesting a station that cuts down on response time while elevating firefighter wellbeing and preparedness.

With spring of 2027 eyed for the groundbreaking, and early 2028 pegged for the ribbon-cutting, Oak Creek residents can rest a little easier knowing that their safety will be further assured by modern, efficient infrastructure designed to carry their protectors swiftly into the dawn of emergencies anew.
