Oceanside police say a late-December holdup at a neighborhood 7-Eleven is now tied to a teenage suspect, after surveillance footage and a community tip helped crack the case. Newly released images from the Oceanside Police Department show two masked robbers, one armed with a handgun, storming the store on Dec. 22, 2025, grabbing several alcoholic beverages and an undisclosed amount of cash before bolting, according to investigators. Detectives later identified one of the suspects as a 17-year-old boy and say charges have since been filed.

How Investigators Say They Closed In

The case landed with detectives in OPD's Crimes of Violence unit, who started working the Dec. 22 robbery soon after it was reported. According to the Oceanside Police Department, a community member came forward with information that helped investigators identify the armed suspect as a 17-year-old male. Surveillance video cited in the post shows one suspect brandishing a handgun and demanding cash while both suspects grabbed alcohol before leaving the store.

By the time detectives made the identification, the teenager was already being held at juvenile hall on unrelated charges, OPD said. Once investigators connected him to the 7-Eleven robbery, the department submitted the case to the San Diego County District Attorney's Office, where prosecutors filed charges in the holdup. Anyone with additional information is asked to contact Detective Knox at (760) 435-4333, according to OPD.

Convenience Stores In The Crosshairs

The Oceanside hit is part of a troubling pattern that has kept law enforcement busy across San Diego County this winter, as convenience stores remain a favorite target for quick-strike robberies. Earlier in the season, the San Diego Police Department investigated two gunpoint holdups at 7-Eleven locations in Kearny Mesa and Encinitas, and detectives looked at whether those incidents might be connected, according to the Times of San Diego.

Those earlier cases, much like the Oceanside robbery, highlight how crucial surveillance footage and community tips can be when it comes to identifying suspects and getting charges filed. Video may not look glamorous, but for detectives trying to match faces, clothing and getaway patterns, it is often the star witness.

What Comes Next For The Juvenile Suspect

Oceanside police say their investigative work is now in the hands of the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office, which will handle the next round of legal decisions in the juvenile suspect’s case. Under California law, most minors are processed in juvenile court, but more serious or repeat offenses can prompt a judge to consider a transfer to adult court. That decision typically hinges on factors such as the youth's age, prior record and level of criminal sophistication, as outlined by the California Legislature.

For now, Oceanside investigators say their message to residents is straightforward. If you have tips, video or details that might help fill in gaps in the Dec. 22 robbery, Detective Knox can be reached at (760) 435-4333.
