A Pine Lawn resident is now facing a first-degree murder charge after a February shooting in north St. Louis that left an 18-year-old dead. Prosecutors say Marrell D. Larkin, 34, is accused in the Feb. 4 shooting on the 1200 block of Peggy Court that authorities say killed Jaheed Sharp. Larkin is being held without bond on additional counts that include unlawful use of a weapon and two counts of armed criminal action.
How investigators tracked the suspect
As detailed by FOX 2, detectives pulled surveillance video and tapped into the city's real-time crime center cameras, following a vehicle linked to the shooting back to Larkin's home. Investigators recovered multiple cartridge cases and a firearm they tied to the incident, and a probable-cause statement alleges multiple shooters opened fire from a house across the street. Charging documents state Larkin admitted to driving a group to Peggy Court shortly before the shooting.
Scene and victim
First Alert 4 reported that officers were called about 1:35 a.m. on Feb. 4 to the 1200 block of Peggy Court, where they later found 18-year-old Jaheed Sharp inside a home. EMS pronounced him dead at the scene. Police have urged anyone with information to contact the SLMPD Homicide Division or CrimeStoppers.
Charges and possible penalties
The St. Louis Circuit Attorney's Office has charged Larkin with first-degree murder, an offense that under Missouri law can carry life in prison or, in some adult cases, the death penalty, as set out in state statute RSMo 565.020. Armed criminal action convictions must run consecutively to any underlying felony sentence and generally add at least three years in prison, under RSMo 571.015. The unlawful-use charges carry separate penalties that depend on the specific conduct. These statutes, laid out in the state code, guide how prosecutors charge and what sentences judges can impose.
Where the case stands now
Online court records show Larkin is jailed without bond, and no court date was publicly listed when FOX 2 reviewed the filings. The St. Louis Circuit Attorney's Office filed the charges, and investigators are still looking for witnesses. Anyone with information was asked to contact the SLMPD Homicide Division, FOX 2 reported.
