Yesterday, an ordinary day in Purcell turned surreal for Bryce Postle when, he says, an escaped McClain County inmate walked into his driveway and took off in his car while his young daughter stood just a few feet away in the garage. The suspect, identified by law enforcement as 22-year-old Michael Dustin Holsey, had been at a nearby hospital for treatment before slipping away from custody. Neighbors watched in disbelief as multiple agencies swarmed the area to track down the stolen vehicle and the man behind the wheel.
Man Says His Daughter Was Steps From The Theft
Postle told KFOR the suspect came into his quiet neighborhood through the backwoods, then climbed into his car and drove off while his daughter waited in the garage about five feet away. He said the hospital where Holsey had been receiving care is less than a mile from his home, and he wants answers about how an inmate managed to escape and end up in his driveway.
Multi-Agency Response And Short Pursuit
Garvin County Sheriff Jim Mullett told KOCO that Holsey drove onto I-35, where the vehicle hydroplaned near the county line and ended up abandoned in a ditch. A family traveling from Norman pulled over to help and were reportedly carjacked for their trouble, according to the station. Pauls Valley police later found that stolen vehicle at a gas station and took Holsey back into custody. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the Garvin County Sheriff’s Office and local police departments all joined in the effort to bring the chase to an end.
Charges And Next Steps
Holsey faces a long list of alleged offenses, including two counts of first-degree burglary, obstruction of an investigation, escape from county jail, engaging in a pattern of criminal offenses and larceny of a motor vehicle, according to KFOR. McClain County officials say formal charges and court dates will be set after investigators finish compiling evidence. The case will move through the McClain County court system as prosecutors review the full investigative file.
Neighbors Shaken But Relieved
Neighbors told KOCO they were rattled by how close the chaos came to their homes and relieved no one was physically hurt. The family whose vehicle was reportedly carjacked was able to recover it and continue their trip to Texas, the outlet reported. Local officials say they plan to review the incident and will share more information as the investigation moves forward.
