In Queens, a two-year-old boy remains on life support following a severe beating. Dayvon Morrison, 30, was charged with attempted murder and assault after his son was found with critical injuries, according to ABC7NY. Morrison, who is being held without bail, stated that he was intoxicated and does not recall assaulting the child.
The boy, currently in critical condition, was reportedly beaten at the Manhattan View Hotel, which is operating as a shelter, on Friday night. The following morning, Morrison reportedly took the child in a stroller to East Harlem and did not immediately seek medical attention. Authorities were notified of the child’s condition in the early hours of Monday. Morrison stated that the toddler sustained extensive injuries, including a blown right pupil, fractured pelvis, liver laceration, brain stem damage, multiple brain bleeds, and swelling of the brain.
The boy’s critical condition has deeply affected the community and his family. In a social media post highlighted by The New York Post, his mother said her son is "fighting for his life in the ICU" and requested prayers for his recovery.
Morrison, who was taken into custody yesterday, did not answer questions while being led out of a Queens police precinct. The timeline between the assault and when medical attention was sought remains unclear. The case has drawn attention to the seriousness of child abuse and its potential consequences. In a Facebook post highlighted by The New York Post, the boy’s mother described her child’s recent milestones, saying he had begun speaking and calling her "mama."
