Adventure seekers and literary enthusiasts alike will find excitement in Raleigh's newly announced active adult day trips. These expeditions are designed for individuals aged 50 and older, but all adults are welcome to join the outings that range from exploring the backdrop of a mystery novel to delving into the legacy of an iconic evangelist.
Starting on March 3, participants can accompany Scott Blackburn, the author of "It Dies With You," to visit real-life locations that inspired the fictional settings in his book set in the imaginary Flint Creek, NC. The story, detailed by Raleigh's Parks and Recreation Department, follows Hudson Miller, a former boxer who finds himself embroiled in a murder mystery wrapped around his father's salvage yard. The trip features spots such as AL Lows Boxing Club and Scuppernong Books, with a self-paid lunch at Captain Tom's Seafood.
On March 31, guests are invited to celebrate spring with a visit to the Billy Graham Library. This experience offers a glimpse into the life of Billy Graham, from his early days on the farm to becoming an advisor to presidents and a globally recognized preacher. The library, sitting on 20 acres in Charlotte, NC, provides visitors with a potent mix of history and cultural influence through immersive exhibits.
The series of outings continues on April 26 with a trip to Temple Theatre in Sanford, NC, for the musical "Bright Star." Set in the 1920s and '40s American South, the musical unfolds the touching story of a literary editor and a war veteran who unearth a life-altering secret. Lunch for the attendees is on their own in downtown Sanford, allowing them to explore an array of local dining options.
For residents interested in registering, the Active Adult Yearly Trip Registration must be completed first. Details for the trips, including times, costs, and contact information for registration, can be found on the Raleigh's Parks and Recreation website. These carefully crafted outings promise participants a day of exploration, camaraderie, and the chance to make new memories. All trips will depart from the Anne Gordon Active Adult Center, located at 1901 Spring Forest Road, Raleigh.
