On Tuesday morning, Sacramento was covered by low clouds and widespread fog that reduced visibility to about three-quarters of a mile and kept temperatures near 43°F, creating slower and potentially difficult early commutes, especially in low-lying areas, before conditions are expected to improve later in the day.
Foggy Mornings, Sunny Afternoons
Forecasters say to plan on patchy to widespread fog before 10 AM, followed by mostly sunny skies and a mild high near 67°F. A light north northwest breeze around 5 mph will keep things calm, and temperatures are set to slide back into the low 40s overnight, according to the National Weather Service.
Dense Fog Advisory And Commute Tips
A Dense Fog Advisory is in effect from 10 PM on Monday until 10 AM Tuesday for parts of the northern San Joaquin Valley. Visibility could drop to a quarter mile or less. Drivers on Highway 99 and I-5 may encounter sudden slowdowns. Use low-beam headlights, reduce speed, and avoid stopping on road shoulders. For driving tips and safety guidance, see Caltrans.
Looking Ahead
Late in the weekend the ridge is expected to weaken, bringing a chance of light rain beginning Sunday and continuing into early next week. Current forecasts put the Valley's odds of measurable rain at roughly one in three. Forecasters caution that timing and amounts are still very much in the air, so it is worth checking back before locking in weekend plans.
