A Sacramento man accused of sexually abusing a child, who authorities say fled to Mexico in 2017 to dodge the charges, is back on the streets after posting a $100,000 bond. His release this week came over loud objections from prosecutors, who argued he is both a danger to the public and a serious flight risk. The defendant, 54-year-old Carlos Galvez-Ramirez, had been extradited to the United States after international authorities tracked him down and arrested him in 2023.
Judge Signs Off on $100K Release
At a hearing last Friday, Judge David Bonilla approved Galvez-Ramirez’s release on a $100,000 bond, according to FOX40. Court records show Galvez-Ramirez pleaded not guilty in June 2024 and is facing multiple felony charges. Once the bond was posted, jail records indicate he was cleared to leave custody.
From Sacramento to Mexico and Back Again
Investigators say Galvez-Ramirez left Sacramento for Mexico in 2017 after the allegations surfaced. Interpol arrested him in June 2023, and FBI agents then escorted him back to the United States, where Sacramento police took him into custody in October 2023, according to earlier reporting by AOL. Previous coverage detailed how authorities traced him to Mexico City and worked with international partners to secure his return.
DA Warned Judge Not to Let Him Out
Deputy District Attorney Allen Tsikerman filed a motion on Dec. 24, 2025, arguing that Galvez-Ramirez should remain behind bars without bail in order to protect the public. Prosecutors said presumptive bail should have been set at $3.2 million, far above what was ultimately ordered. The Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office said it remains “deeply concerned about the risk posed by the defendant’s release” and will continue to seek full accountability, the office told FOX40.
Serious Charges and a Child Abuse Investigation
Court documents state that Galvez-Ramirez faces four felony counts tied to the sexual assault of a child under 10. The charges include three counts of oral copulation or penetration and one count of committing a forcible lewd act. The alleged abuse occurred between 2014 and 2016. The Sacramento Police Department’s sexual assault and child abuse unit opened an investigation after an 11-year-old reported that the abuse began when she was nine, according to earlier reporting by AOL.
What Happens Next in Court
According to jail records, Galvez-Ramirez posted the $100,000 bond and was released while the case moves forward. He still faces all charges and is legally presumed innocent as prosecutors build their case. Sacramento Superior Court will set the schedule for upcoming hearings.
How Bail Fights Like This Play Out
The case shows how a past escape can loom large over bail decisions. Prosecutors pointed to Galvez-Ramirez’s 2017 departure for Mexico and subsequent international capture as proof he is likely to flee again. Defense attorneys, for their part, are expected to highlight the judge’s order, the bond, and any release conditions in arguing that he can remain in the community while the case proceeds. In the end, the judge must balance public safety, the risk that the defendant might take off again, and the constitutional presumption of innocence as the case moves toward trial.
