Seattle is waking up under a gray, murky blanket on Wednesday, with temperatures hovering near 43°F at Boeing Field and a light northerly breeze along the water. Low stratus and patchy fog are clinging to the Salish Sea and Puget Sound, cutting visibility in low-lying neighborhoods and along waterfront routes. The good news: skies are expected to open up by late morning, giving way to a mostly sunny afternoon near 50°F and a short-lived dry break before the next system arrives.
Morning Fog And Commute
The fog and low clouds are expected to drift farther south down the Sound through the morning, creating very low ceilings and pockets of near-zero visibility that could slow the commute. According to the National Weather Service Seattle, those low ceilings may briefly bring very low flight conditions at Sea-Tac early today, so drivers are urged to slow down and keep headlights on. If you're flying, check live flight status through the Port of Seattle and build in extra time for both departures and arrivals.
Afternoon And Week Ahead
An upper-level ridge should be just strong enough to scatter the low stratus by midday, allowing for some sunshine and afternoon highs near 50°F on Wednesday, February 11. Overnight lows are expected to settle around 38–39°F. That ridge begins to weaken late Thursday, February 12 as the next frontal system edges in. Look for a chance of light rain late Thursday night, with rain likely on Friday, February 13 and daytime highs sliding back into the mid-40s. Snow levels will drop toward roughly 3,000 feet overnight into Friday, which means Cascade passes could pick up light snow while the lowlands stay mostly just wet.
Boaters, Roads And What To Pack
Out on the water, mariners should be ready for seas to build into the double digits late Thursday into Friday, with Small Craft Advisories possible for the outer waters. On the roads, expect reduced visibility in the morning fog - use low beams and leave extra space between cars - and slick pavement once the late-week rain moves in. For planning ahead, think umbrella for Friday, plus a light jacket for the cool afternoons and likely damp weekend.
