Gunfire outside a Lavonia apartment complex on Monday evening ended not with a standoff, but with a quiet surrender days later, after police say a 23-year-old Atlanta man turned himself in to investigators.

The incident unfolded at Ridgewood Hill Apartments on Poole Street, where officers found damage to the outside of a unit after someone reportedly fired shots near the building. No one was hit, but the scene was serious enough that the Lavonia Police Department has since stepped up patrols at the complex following what officials describe as two recent incidents there. Police say the investigation is still active.

Police: Suspect Identified and Hit With Multiple Charges

Officers were called to Ridgewood Hill around 7:15 p.m. Monday on reports of gunfire, according to WYFF News 4. Investigators determined the suspect first caused damage to the exterior of a resident's apartment, then fired shots into the air. No injuries were reported.

WYFF News 4 identifies the suspect as 23-year-old Demetrius Green of Atlanta. Police say Green later turned himself in and is now facing a stack of charges, including reckless conduct, criminal trespass, tampering with evidence, battery and obstruction.

The same complex has already been on officers’ radar this year. As also reported by WYFF News 4, Lavonia police responded to Ridgewood Hill on Jan. 28, when suspected methamphetamine was recovered and 28-year-old Christopher Hysinger was arrested with help from the Hart County Sheriff's Office.

Police Beef Up Patrols as Department Adds Staff

In the wake of the recent calls, Lavonia officials say officers have been conducting extra patrols at Ridgewood Hill Apartments. Local station 92.1 WLHR reports the department recently received federal COPS grant funding and has been hiring additional officers, a move city leaders say is aimed at helping smaller neighborhoods handle spikes in calls for service.

The city’s municipal website also lists contact information for residents who have safety concerns or tips they want to share with local authorities.

Investigation Still Active

Lavonia police say the case is far from closed. The investigation remains ongoing, and anyone with information is urged to reach out to local law enforcement.

As noted by WYFF News 4, charges have already been filed, and investigators are continuing to follow leads. Officials have not released any details about a possible motive and say more information will be shared as the case develops.
