A late-night drive on San Antonio’s South Side turned violent early today when a 19-year-old man was shot in what police are calling a drive-by attack. Wounded but still able to move, the victim drove himself to a nearby school parking lot to call for help and was later taken to University Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.
The San Antonio Police Department says the gunfire broke out around 12:26 a.m. near the 200 block of West Malone at South Flores. The man was hit in the lower back, according to KENS 5. Detectives were still piecing together what happened by mid-morning, and police had not announced any arrests.
Police response
Drive-by shootings have repeatedly left young people injured across San Antonio, with local outlets tracking a string of similar incidents in recent months. For instance, KSAT reported a September 2025 West Side drive-by that left a 19-year-old in critical condition, and the Express-News has documented other recent cases.
