A burglary incident in Southeast D.C. led to an arrest earlier this week after a tense confrontation at a residential property. On Tuesday night, a man attempted to break into an occupied home along Q Street, alarming the residents inside.
According to the Metropolitan Police Department, the suspect forcibly pushed his way through the front door at approximately 7:41 p.m., prompting an immediate struggle. The situation escalated when the homeowner, acting in self-defense, discharged a legally registered shotgun during the encounter, bringing the incident to a swift and dramatic end.
The police, arriving in response to the scene, apprehended 33-year-old Frederick Douglas Smith III without any further complications. Smith, a resident of Southeast D.C., sustained non-critical injuries from the altercation, and was subsequently transported to a local hospital by DC Fire and EMS personnel. He has been charged with Burglary I, though details about his court appearance or potential charges have not been released.
