Cat people, your moment might finally be back. Purrfecto Cat Lounge, the Austin-born cat cafe that pairs adoptable felines with coffee and themed events, plans to open a Southtown location in San Antonio this May, which would bring the city its first full-time cat lounge in years. The new spot is slated to run by appointment so guests can meet and play with adoptable cats in curated sessions. The San Antonio move follows social posts and local coverage of Purrfecto’s expansion plans last year.
According to Community Impact, founder Lupita Adams said in an email that the company is eyeing a to-be-announced Southtown spot near the Lone Star District and is tentatively aiming for a May opening. Exact details and the final address are still under wraps for now.
What To Expect Inside
Per Purrfecto's website, visitors book timed "CatXperiences" that run 30 or 70 minutes to hang out with adoptable cats. The Austin lounge also sells coffee, tea and snacks for guests, so it is not just about pets and purrs. The site highlights recurring events such as painting nights, sound baths and other themed sessions that mix social time with cat time.
Room For More, With A Rescue Focus
Local reporting earlier this year noted that the planned San Antonio outpost will be larger than the Austin location, with roughly 2,300 square feet, space for about 40 guests and room for roughly 30 cats, plus a wine bar and coffee corner, according to MySA. The owners told the outlet they plan to staff the lounge with a vet technician and a groomer to keep an eye on the cats' health and well-being.
Adoptions And Pricing
Per Purrfecto's website, the lounge partners with rescue groups and lists Fuzzy Texan Animal Rescue and Kingdom Rescue among its collaborators. The company notes more than 1,300 cats have been adopted through its Austin program so far.
The Austin branch charges an entry fee, and Express-News reported prices of $15 for 30 minutes and $30 for 70 minutes. Most visits are limited to guests 6 and older, with special "Tiny Tots Days" set aside for younger children.
The exact San Antonio address and a firm opening date remain TBA; Community Impact notes that more details are expected in the coming weeks. If the timeline holds, Southtown residents should have a new spot where coffee, wine and rescue cats all share the room this spring.
