The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office is making strides in addressing drug-related issues in the St. Augustine community. According to a recent social media post by the SJSO, their Special Investigations Unit (SIU), teamed up with SWAT, Air and Drone units, has successfully executed a narcotics search warrant at a residence on Windward Way following a series of community complaints.
On Thursday evening, law enforcement officers made their move on 984 Windward Way, where they arrested 44-year-old Richard Stuhmer. During the search of Stuhmer’s home, officers reportedly found 2.3 grams of methamphetamine, 7.1 grams of powder cocaine, a digital scale, and drug paraphernalia. Stuhmer, following the raid, has been charged with possession of cocaine and methamphetamine, keeping a public nuisance structure for drug activity, and use or possession of drug paraphernalia.
The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office has described the property as a "nuisance" to the area, indicating a proactive approach to improving the local neighborhood's safety and well-being. The bust comes at a time when the community has voiced concerns over drug activity in their neighborhood. By taking down this operation, the Sheriff’s Office aims to reassure the public that their grievances are being taken seriously and actions are being taken to ensure a safer environment.
Stuhmer is currently being held accountable for his alleged involvement in maintaining the cycle of narcotics distribution within the St. Augustine community. As the SIU continues their rigorous efforts to combat drug-related activities in the area, the message being sent to similar offenders is clear. The SJSO is committed to disrupting the presence of illegal substances and the dangers they pose, and improve neighborhood safety, as stated in their post.
