St. Charles Parish residents and commuters are met with a slew of road closures and construction projects that may affect their daily travel. For those traversing Hwy 628, it's key to note that from January 26 through March 13, 2026, the stretch between the KCS railroad and Hwy 61 is shut down for pile driving operations. Access to the KCS railroad to the spillway road and River Road remains open for haul trucks, Cembell Industries, and Vicker's Lane residents who are being rerouted via Spillway Road or River Road. Despite the closure, one lane is kept available for emergency vehicles at the PS #2 construction site.
Destrehan's Jonathan Street continues to be closed indefinitely, compelling emergency vehicles to navigate through Bunge’s heavy haul road to reach Noel Street, avoiding Lorraine Street. Similarly, Ormond Center Court is currently blocked from 150 Ormond Center Court to 3001 Ormond Blvd due to roadworks, though a detour is allowing vehicle traffic to proceed through the area.
Another significant travel advisory involves LA 3127, where intermittent and alternating lane closures between St. James Parish Line and the St. Charles Parish Line will last until October 30, 2026. This is to accommodate the installation of drainage structures along with an asphalt mill and overlay. The lane closures are scheduled from 6AM to 6PM, subject to weather conditions, and oversized loads are limited to a 12-foot width. Motorists are encouraged to use alternative routes, including LA 3213, LA 641, I-10, and I-310 to bypass the work zone.
Additionally, LA 3127 is facing upcoming utility work and permit-related closures from December 6, 2025, to February 27, 2026, with single lane and shoulder intermittent closures likely to impact travelers. Northbound and Southbound LA 3127 will also experience closures from February 2 to February 6, from 6AM to 5PM daily, for asphalt patching operations, as noted by the St. Charles Parish Government. Meanwhile, on US 61, between Almedia Rd and Ormond Blvd, single lane closures will recur between the evenings of February 4 and the early morning of February 6 for roadwork.
