In the early hours of February 1, a district that seldom sleeps was awakened by a grim event. According to a report by the St. Louis Metropolitan Police, officers were called to the 300 block of N. 9th St. at approximately 2:30am, where they discovered a man in his 50s, the victim of a shooting. The man, tragically, did not survive despite the response from emergency medical services.
The ensuing investigation, led by homicide detectives, took a swift turn with the help of technology. Detectives from the Real Time Crime Center capitalized on their access to area surveillance cameras, through which they pinpointed a potential suspect. This rapid coordination resulted in the detention of a woman in her 30s who is currently held, as the investigation proceeds. This process reflects the growing entwinement of law enforcement and surveillance technologies in the effort to expedite justice and, presumably, increase public safety.
Now, as the city grapples with the ongoing challenge of crime, the police are reaching out to the community for assistance. The Homicide Division is accepting information relevant to the case and can be reached directly at 314-444-5371.
