A food delivery run turned ugly on Super Bowl Sunday in Southeast Baltimore, when a 30-year-old driver was assaulted during an attempted carjacking on East Lombard Street. The confrontation unfolded just after noon in the 900 block, as two unidentified men climbed into the driver's Honda and tried to take off with it. Medics treated the victim at the scene for what police described as minor injuries, and he did not appear to need hospital transport.
Police Search For Suspects
The incident, first detailed by WCBM, erupted at about 12:08 p.m. on Feb. 8 when the driver struggled with the two men as they allegedly tried to steal his vehicle. During the scuffle, one suspect reportedly assaulted the driver, though authorities say his injuries were limited to minor wounds. Detectives are now canvassing the surrounding blocks for witnesses and surveillance footage in an effort to put names to the two unknown suspects.
Delivery Drivers Facing Increased Risk
The attempted carjacking is the latest in a string of troubling incidents involving delivery workers. On Jan. 24, the killing of DoorDash driver Cheryl McCormack, reported by WMAR2-News, underscored how routine drop-offs can turn fatal. Local coverage has also tracked wider clusters of carjackings and robberies in Southeast neighborhoods, a pattern CBS Baltimore has highlighted in earlier reporting. Those incidents, which span both daytime and predawn hours, have complicated enforcement strategies and added to community safety concerns in parts of the Southeast District.
How To Help
Baltimore police are asking anyone with information about the attempted carjacking to contact Southeast District detectives. The Southeastern District lists its non-emergency line as 410-396-2422, and Metro Crime Stoppers accepts anonymous tips at 1-866-7LOCKUP, according to the Baltimore Police Department. Investigators say any dash-cam or door-cam footage from the 900 block of East Lombard Street could be crucial in identifying the suspects.
