Tampa's firefighting brigade joined the local community in honoring the heritage and achievements of African Americans during the City of Tampa's 2026 Black History Celebration. This year's event was notably marked by a tribute to military veterans who have transitioned their spirit of service to benefit the streets and homes of Tampa. As reported by Tampa Fire Rescue's social media, Fire Chief Barbara Tripp, a veteran herself, delivered the keynote address.

Amidst the celebrations, Tampa Fire Rescue highlighted the contributions of their own. Robert Collins, Special Operations Chief and U.S. Air Force veteran; Milt Jenkins, Assistant Chief of Administration and U.S. Navy veteran; and Barbara Tripp, Fire Chief and also a Navy veteran, were all recognized for their continued commitment to the community. In a display of pride, the department shared that, "Their service, both in the military and in the fire service, reflects a lifelong commitment to leadership, sacrifice, and public service."

Providing gratitude, Tampa Fire Rescue's statement on social media mentioned, "We are proud to work alongside leaders whose experiences strengthen our department and our city."
