Dense fog settled over much of the Atlanta metro early Saturday, turning the morning commute into a slow roll and chopping visibility to roughly a half mile in many neighborhoods and a quarter mile or less in low-lying spots. Around 5:35 a.m. ET on Saturday, Feb. 28, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (KATL) was reporting fog with a temperature near 53°F and humidity in the 90s. Drivers should be ready for sluggish surface-street traffic and sudden changes in visibility on ramps and bridges.
Dense Fog Advisory
The National Weather Service has issued a Dense Fog Advisory for portions of central and west-central Georgia, in effect until 10 a.m. ET Saturday, Feb. 28. The advisory warns that visibility may drop to a quarter mile or less, creating hazardous driving conditions.
According to NWS Peachtree City, motorists should slow down, use headlights, and leave extra distance between vehicles while the advisory is in place.
How This Affects Your Commute
Plan on slower travel on both local roads and interstates until the fog burns off. Give yourself extra time, keep your low beams on if you have to be out early, and be patient with drivers who are taking it cautiously.

Afternoon Outlook
According to the latest forecast from NWS Peachtree City, the fog should scatter by late morning, giving way to mostly sunny skies and a high near 70°F across the metro on Saturday, Feb. 28. Light northeast winds around 0 to 5 mph will keep the afternoon calm and dry, a solid setup for errands, walks, or outdoor plans once the haze lifts.
Travel Tips
If visibility drops to near zero, pull completely off the roadway, switch on your hazard lights, and wait for conditions to improve instead of trying to power through the fog. Before heading to the airport or catching MARTA, check your airline or transit app for delays, and keep an eye on updates as conditions gradually improve through the morning.
