
An 88-year-old woman was shoved to the ground and had her cane taken from her outside the Union Square Target on Thursday, police said, leaving her in such pain that she was later taken to Lenox Hill Hospital for treatment. By the time officers arrived, the assailant had already taken off, and the victim was treated for pain across her body.
According to the New York Post, the attack happened outside the chain store at East 14th Street and Union Square East in Manhattan, where an unidentified person pushed the woman to the pavement and grabbed her cane. The outlet reports that police have opened an investigation into the assault.

The incident unfolded along the busy retail strip that lines Union Square, a stretch packed with shoppers and commuters on most days. Local listings put the Target at 10 Union Square East, giving it a prominent spot on the block that faces the park.
Police response
Officers answered calls about the assault, and authorities say the case remains under active investigation with no arrests yet reported.
