A Charlotte man has been handed a 15 to 20 year prison sentence for a 2024 Uptown shooting that left one man dead and three others wounded, bringing a grim chapter on North Tryon Street a step closer to closure.

According to WSOC-TV, 31-year-old Laquan Hoe pleaded guilty and received credit for 583 days already served when a Mecklenburg County judge imposed the 15 to 20 year term. The plea covers a quadruple shooting outside the A1 Lounge in Uptown.

Shooting Outside A1 Lounge

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department reports the gunfire broke out in the early morning hours of June 8, 2024, in the 600 block of North Tryon Street, just outside the A1 Lounge. Four people were hit and taken to area hospitals.

One of those victims, 30-year-old Aundrey Brown Jr., died a month later on July 8, 2024, after succumbing to his injuries, according to the department’s release.

Arrest and Charges

Detectives reviewed surveillance footage and identified Hoe as a suspect, then arrested the 31-year-old on Aug. 1, 2024, in connection with the case, as reported by WBTV. The station notes that Hoe was held without bond after his arrest while the homicide unit continued its investigation.

Evidence and Motive

Investigators recovered 13 shell casings at the scene, and authorities say the confrontation started after someone in a group was denied entry for being underage, according to WSOC-TV. Three additional victims were initially wounded in the shooting and survived.

Investigation Ongoing

The homicide investigation remains active, per the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. Anyone with information is asked to call 704-432-8477 (TIPS) or Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600. Prosecutors and defense attorneys did not immediately provide additional comment.
