A 23-year-old Washington, D.C. man is facing serious charges after allegedly threatening his ex-girlfriend with a firearm last October, the U.S. Attorney’s Office announced yesterday. The suspect, who has a prior conviction for violent crimes, was indicted by a grand jury on charges including assault with a dangerous weapon.
On October 26, 2025, an argument between the man and his ex-girlfriend escalated when he brandished a gun and made threats against her while she held their two-year-old son, as reported by the U.S. Attorney’s Office. The incident happened inside an apartment complex located on Oak Street NW. The victim managed to alert authorities from a nearby market, which led to the man’s arrest at the scene, and law enforcement recovered a weapon from an apartment associated with the suspect.
The indictment, dated February 4, 2026, includes possession of a firearm during a crime of violence, unlawful possession of a firearm (prior conviction), possession of a firearm with an altered or obliterated serial number, and carrying a pistol without a license. Metropolitan Police Chief Jeffery Carroll, who joined the announcement, reinforced the severity of the charges. The case has been handed to the Superior Court of the District Columbia set for a status hearing today before Judge Carmen McLean.
“A criminal complaint is merely an allegation,” the official announcement states, reminding the public that despite the serious charges leveled against the individual, all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. The investigation, led by the Metropolitan Police Department and the U.S. Attorney’s Office, is ongoing, and the prosecution of the case is in the hands of Assistant U.S. Attorney Jasmine Dohemann.
