A 35-year-old man was shot in the neck Saturday evening on San Antonio's West Side and remains hospitalized in critical but not life-threatening condition, according to police. Officers say a possible suspect was taken into custody as detectives worked the scene and spoke with witnesses, as reported by the Fox San Antonio.
What happened
Around 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, officers were called out for reports of a shooting in progress near the corner of Culebra Road and Northwest 27th Street. Lt. Ray of the San Antonio Police Department told Fox San Antonio that the victim was found on the block, then moved to a nearby business for safety before officers arrived.
Detectives and first responders stayed on scene as they talked with witnesses and collected evidence, trying to lock down what unfolded in those crucial moments before police got there.
Victim, suspect and investigation
In a statement to Fox San Antonio, Lt. Ray said the victim is currently unable to speak because of his injuries and can only nod in response to questions. He was transported to a hospital, where his condition was described as critical but not life-threatening.
Police have detained a 28-year-old man as a possible suspect. Detectives are continuing to interview witnesses as they work to piece together what led up to the shooting.
What investigators are looking for
