A late-morning crash on the westbound Ronald Reagan (118) Freeway at San Fernando Road in Pacoima sent a motorcyclist to a nearby trauma center Saturday and brought traffic to a halt for more than an hour while emergency crews worked the scene.
Authorities said the rider was injured after colliding with a sedan, and was taken to a local trauma center with unspecified injuries. Westbound lanes were blocked as medics treated the motorcyclist and crews cleared the wreckage.
According to Accident News 247, the collision occurred at about 11:25 a.m. when a motorcycle and a silver sedan collided in the westbound lanes. The outlet reported that the male rider was transported to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center for treatment of unspecified injuries and that westbound lanes remained closed until roughly 12:45 p.m. The California Highway Patrol is investigating what led up to the crash.
Rider Taken To Mission Hills Trauma Center
Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills operates a 24-hour emergency department and serves the San Fernando Valley. The hospital, listed at Providence Holy Cross Medical Center, is the nearest trauma-capable facility for patients from Pacoima and nearby neighborhoods. Officials have not released additional public details about the rider's condition.
Crash Fits Into Larger County Trend
According to UC Berkeley SafeTREC, Los Angeles County consistently records among the state's highest totals of fatal and serious-injury collisions, underscoring the risks on busy freeway corridors. SafeTREC's TIMS mapping tools are used by planners and researchers to track where severe crashes cluster across the county. Advocacy groups note that repeated serious collisions on corridors like the 118 highlight the need for continued enforcement and engineering changes to improve safety.
Investigation And Witness Appeals
The CHP investigation will include a review of vehicle damage, roadway evidence, surveillance footage and any witness statements to reconstruct how the crash unfolded. Anyone who saw the collision or captured it on dash-cam video is asked to contact CHP Valley investigators. Officials said they plan to release more information as reports are completed and the case progresses.
