A late-night scuffle outside an Acworth bar turned deadly early Saturday when, according to police, a man trying to break up a fight was shot and later died. Officers were called to the Saddle Bar on Cowan Road around 2:40 a.m., and the victim was taken to Wellstar Kennestone Regional Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries. A suspect was arrested nearby and is being held in the Cobb County jail, authorities said.
Police identified the suspect as 25-year-old Daniel Di Vonne Parsons of Douglasville, who is facing felony murder, aggravated battery and aggravated assault charges, according to Atlanta News First. Records show Parsons was booked into the Cobb County Adult Detention Center and is being held without bond.
Where the shooting happened
Officers were dispatched to the Saddle Bar off Cowan Road at about 2:42 a.m. on reports of a person who had been shot and arrived to find the victim suffering from a gunshot wound, as WSB-TV reported. Police began rendering aid until Cobb County Fire and Metro EMS arrived and transported the victim to Kennestone for emergency treatment.
Not long after, officers located Parsons walking near Baker Road and took him into custody, Atlanta News First reports. Investigators have not yet released the victim’s name as they work to notify his family.
Charges and investigation
The Acworth Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division is leading the case, according to WSB-TV. Detectives are asking anyone who saw what happened in the parking lot or has video from the area to contact the Acworth Police records division or tip line at 770-974-1232, per the Acworth Police Department.
Local pattern of late-night violence
The deadly shooting is the latest high-profile case tied to bar fights in the area. In January, a shooting at Marlene’s Bar in Austell left one person dead and several others hurt, according to 95.5 WSB. Local officials have repeatedly warned that once a bar fight spills into the parking lot, crowds, alcohol and weapons can turn a bad situation into a deadly one in seconds.
Investigators say the Acworth case remains active, and more details could be released as officers follow up on leads and process evidence. Anyone with tips is urged to contact Acworth police.
