
Akron police are investigating after a 26-year-old woman was found shot inside her apartment just after midnight Saturday and later pronounced dead, authorities said.
Officers were called to the 400 block of South Maple Street shortly after midnight, where they found the woman inside her unit with a gunshot wound. Detectives are now working to piece together what happened and who is responsible.
According to Cleveland.com, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name has not yet been released, as officials are still notifying family members. Investigators with the Akron Police Department’s Major Crimes and Crime Scene units processed evidence inside the apartment and canvassed the surrounding area for clues.
Police say no ongoing threat as detectives dig in
Akron police told WOIO that officers arrived at about 12:31 a.m. and found the 26-year-old with an apparent gunshot wound. Detectives stayed on scene to collect evidence, and officers said they do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the public.
