Atlanta renters who have been watching home prices climb may get a rare break this weekend at The Gallery at South DeKalb, where the Neighborhood Assistance Corporation of America is hosting a three-day homebuying hub that promises to strip away traditional up-front costs for eligible buyers. From 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday through Sunday, the pop-up will offer workshops, one-on-one counseling and on-site mortgage qualification under one very busy mall roof.
According to WSB-TV, the Achieve the Dream hub is designed to help hundreds of renters and first-time buyers when it opens Friday at The Gallery at South DeKalb. The outlet also noted that NACA previously ran a similar event in Clayton County as organizers work to reach working families across the metro area.
What's On Offer
According to NACA, its "Best in America Mortgage" requires no down payment, no closing costs, no mortgage insurance and offers below-market fixed rates. The group listed a 30-year fixed rate of 5.25% as of March 10. "Homeownership is still the most powerful way families build wealth and stability," NACA founder Bruce Marks said in the release, framing the deal as a way to pull more working households into the market.
Housing Market Context
Data from Georgia MLS shows the Atlanta metro's median residential sales price hit $389,000 in February, roughly a 5% jump from January. Local reporting has also pointed out that home prices in the region are nearly 56% higher than they were six years ago, a spike that has turned the path to a starter home into a steep climb for first-time buyers and working families. WSB-TV highlighted that long-term rise.
How The One-Day Process Works
NACA says attendees can move through a four-step process in a single day: a homebuyer workshop, document upload, one-on-one HUD-certified counseling and a meeting with a mortgage specialist to determine qualification. Organizers say many participants leave NACA-qualified and ready to start their home search the same day, with both advance registration and walk-ins accepted for the event.
Local Partnership And Past Events
DeKalb County is partnering with NACA on the push as part of a broader housing effort, according to local coverage. Rough Draft Atlanta reported earlier planning sessions and a January Achieve the Dream run at the same venue. County officials have described the pop-ups as one tool in a larger toolkit aimed at expanding access to homeownership for lower and moderate-income residents.
Prospective attendees are encouraged to bring identification, proof of income and documents detailing current rent or assets to speed up processing, and to brace for long lines during peak hours. For many would-be buyers, the three-day hub may be a rare chance to clear the usual upfront hurdles and walk out mortgage-ready without the standard down payment and closing-cost shock.
