Cleveland’s West Side came to a sudden stop Wednesday morning when police sealed off streets around a home near West 140th Street and Triskett Avenue for what officers called an “active situation” involving a barricaded suspect.
Tactical units rolled into the neighborhood and set up a perimeter as police worked to contain the scene and keep people back from the immediate area.
Scene and response
An employee at Northeast Factory Direct said officers first showed up around 10:15 a.m., and police and other crews stayed on scene as the perimeter expanded. Cleveland police said they would share more information as it became available, according to WKYC.
Where this is
The home sits near the West 140th Street exit off I-90 and close to the Triskett rapid transit station, putting the scene by the Triskett bus garage and the highway ramp. The transit agency lists the Triskett station at 13405 Lakewood Heights Blvd with entrances on Triskett Avenue, which helps explain why commuters and workers in the area reported such heavy police activity, according to RTA.
Context on barricade calls
Barricade incidents on Cleveland’s West Side have previously drawn extended SWAT and negotiation responses that shut streets for hours and disrupted nearby businesses. Coverage of earlier standoffs around the Triskett area has shown those responses stretching into the early morning, according to News 5 Cleveland.
What residents should know
Police asked people to steer clear of the immediate block while officers worked the scene and said they would release updates as they become available. This story will be updated with official statements and any changes to road access once authorities provide more details.
