Hot Dog Diner in Parma is packing up again. Operator Bob Berry has announced that operations at 5494 Pearl Rd. will wind down at the end of this week, with the counter-service spot relocating a half mile down the street to a smaller building at 5687 Pearl Rd.
The move was reported by Cleveland Scene, which notes that Berry has secured the new, smaller location and that the diner is expected to open there sometime in October. The current building at 5494 Pearl Rd. is a former Taco Bell that came equipped with both a drive-thru window and an indoor dining area, according to an earlier report from the same outlet. Hot Dog Diner has operated out of that former fast-food building since last summer, after relocating there from its previous Brookpark Road home.
The new address at 5687 Pearl Rd. is listed for Leanza's North Coast Pizza & Subs in April 2026, per Restaurantji. The move would keep Hot Dog Diner on the same Pearl Road corridor.
A Business That Keeps Finding Its Way Back to Pearl Road
This is far from the first upheaval for Hot Dog Diner. Founders Dave and Natalie Teare opened the original Hot Dog Diner on Brookpark Road in 2005, according to Cleveland Scene's timeline, before eventually relocating the operation to Pearl Road and building a 20-year brand identity. In 2023, the Teares announced their retirement, and the restaurant was announced to be closing after two decades in business — only for a family member to step in and keep it open.
Then, operators announced the restaurant would close again, with Cleveland.com reporting at the time that the business had set a closing date at 5494 Pearl Rd. and planned to relocate to Brunswick. Community interest helped prevent a move to Brunswick, while new leadership under Berry kept the business in Parma, and Hot Dog Diner reopened just a few months after its announced closure in the same Parma location it now occupies — the former Taco Bell building. Operators had alluded to a new life for the restaurant in a different location as far back as 2025, a plan that has now taken more concrete shape with the move to 5687 Pearl Rd.
The Pierogi Burger and Polish Boy Anchor the Menu
Whatever the address, Hot Dog Diner's menu has leaned into Parma's Eastern European roots. Its best-selling burger item is the Pierogi Burger, a fresh beef patty topped with a locally crafted potato-and-cheese pierogi, grilled onions, American cheese, and sour cream, created in honor of Parma's large Polish community, according to Cleveland Rocks Cleveland Eats.
The diner also serves the Polish Boy, a signature Cleveland sandwich made of grilled kielbasa topped with french fries, coleslaw, and barbecue sauce on a hot dog bun. The sandwich traces back to the 1940s, when it was popularized by barbecue pioneer Virgil Whitmore Sr. at his Mt. Pleasant barbecue stand, blending Southern barbecue styles brought north during the Great Migration with Eastern European kielbasa, according to 93.1 WZAK. The Polish Boy is another menu item at Hot Dog Diner.
Downsizing Amid a Broader Parma Trend

The shift to a smaller footprint also comes as another Parma restaurant has relocated. Hoodline previously reported that Fast Eddie's Kitchen & Bar relocated along Broadview Road in early 2026 due to rising rent and labor costs. Whether Hot Dog Diner's new building at 5687 Pearl Rd. will retain the drive-thru convenience of its current spot, or how the smaller footprint might affect seating and kitchen output, remains to be seen once the October opening arrives.
