Washington County deputies arrested a 24-year-old Beaverton man after multiple callers reported someone firing a handgun out the window of a pickup late on Feb. 22 near the Quatama area. Deputies tracked down the truck outside a nearby home, found shell casings at the scene, and took the driver into custody. No injuries or property damage were reported, but the man is now facing a stack of criminal charges.

How deputies say the incident unfolded

Deputies and Hillsboro police headed to the 8300 block of NE Quatama St at about 10:40 p.m. on Feb. 22 after reports of gunshots in the area, according to KPTV. Callers told dispatchers the driver of a Ford F-150 was seen firing a handgun from the truck’s window.

Investigators later found the Ford F-150 parked outside a nearby residence and recovered shell casings close to the vehicle. People at the home identified the driver as 24-year-old Andres Alfaro-Reyes, who was arrested at the scene, KPTV reported.

Charges and what they mean

Alfaro-Reyes was booked on counts that include unlawful use of a weapon, recklessly endangering another person, DUII and second-degree disorderly conduct. Under Oregon law, intentionally discharging a weapon or carrying it with intent to use it unlawfully is classified as unlawful use of a weapon, a Class C felony, according to Oregon Public Law (ORS 166.220).

Recklessly endangering another person is categorized as a Class A misdemeanor under Oregon Public Law (ORS 163.195). DUII is governed by Oregon Public Law (ORS 813.010), which can bring both criminal penalties and driver’s license consequences if the charge is proven.
