A deal that was supposed to be a simple item swap on Garibaldi Street ended with gunfire and a teenager in the hospital, and Atlanta police say the shooter is still on the loose.

Officers were called to the 600 block of Garibaldi St. SW around 5 p.m. on Feb. 17, 2025, where they found a juvenile suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was taken to a hospital for treatment, according to the Atlanta Police Department.

Investigators say the teen and the suspect had arranged to exchange items when the suspect tried to snatch the goods and take off, according to reporting by FOX 5 Atlanta. A struggle followed, and it ended with the suspect pulling a gun and firing.

Police describe the suspected shooter as wearing a black beanie and a black hoodie with white writing on the back and carrying a duffel bag. Detectives are urging anyone who recognizes that description or who was in the area at the time to come forward.

According to the Atlanta Police Department, tips can be submitted anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 404-577-TIPS (8477) or through the department's online tip portal.

Garibaldi Corridor Sees Another Shooting

Hoodline previously covered a daytime shooting on Garibaldi in January that left a man wounded, another incident that put a spotlight on recurring violence along the same stretch of street. That earlier coverage is part of why investigators are again stressing the need for witnesses and nearby residents to share what they saw or recorded.

How to Help Police Without Taking Risks

Anyone who was in the area or who may have captured video on a doorbell camera, security system, or phone is asked to save it and share it with detectives. Police are clear on one point: do not try to confront anyone involved.

The Atlanta Police Department reiterates that tips can be given anonymously to Crime Stoppers by phone or through its online portal, and says the investigation into the Garibaldi Street shooting remains active.
