If you have a few thousand dollars to spare for a single night, Shobi Dahl is happy to hand over the keys. The co-founder and former CEO of Dave’s Killer Bread is opening her Lake Oswego riverfront mansion, the Palais de Leon, as a high-end short-term rental this summer. The nearly 20,000-square-foot gated estate sits on roughly three acres along the Willamette River and comes stocked with a private theater, ballroom and multiple event-ready living spaces. Dahl and the management team say nightly rates will be in the thousands, with the most popular dates climbing even higher.
According to OregonLive, iTrip Northwest will handle bookings, and Corey Tigner told the outlet the nightly price will range roughly from $3,000 to $8,000. Dahl said she approached the rollout with care, explaining that “my approach to filling this house was that of a chef,” and adding that opening the mansion to guests will help her move toward a simpler everyday living setup for her family. On iTrip Northwest, the property is billed as an event-friendly riverfront estate.
Inside the House
The Redfin listing notes that the home measures about 19,444 square feet and was built in 1996. Inside, it features a theater and ballroom anchored by a grand fireplace and interior Juliet balconies, plus a mahogany-paneled whiskey library and other theatrical spaces. Marketing materials also call out a resort-style pool, broad terraces and a pool house set up for year-round catered events, along with a private dock on the river. The garages and workshop space can accommodate more than a dozen collectible cars, according to the listing.
Public records show that Dahl bought the repossessed property in 2016, with the sale closing in August of that year, per Homes.com. Before that, Dave’s Killer Bread, the company that helped make Dahl a household name in the bread aisle, was sold to Flowers Foods in 2015 for roughly $275 million, as reported by Food Business News. Dahl has said she is “really excited to open the doors of Palais de Leon to the world” while she works out a more streamlined living situation for her family.
Price and Local Rules
The estate was most recently listed for sale at $8.9 million, according to Redfin, but the current strategy leans heavily into experiences and events rather than a traditional home sale. Lake Oswego has regulated short-term rentals since 2019, with licensing rules and transient lodging taxes detailed on the City of Lake Oswego website.
For now, reservations and availability are being funneled through the iTrip Northwest listing, where group stays and event bookings are front and center for anyone ready to treat the massive mansion like their own private resort, at least for a night.
