What started as a late-night house party in Brighton turned into a frightening scene early Sunday, when gunfire erupted outside and a car full of people was left peppered with bullets. Despite multiple rounds hitting the vehicle, no injuries were reported. Officers already in the area responded to a call just after 1:30 a.m. and heard shots as they arrived, but the shooter was gone by the time they reached the scene. Detectives say they are actively chasing down leads.
What officers found
According to the Brighton Police Department, officers located an occupied vehicle in the 100 block of N. 4th Avenue that had been struck by several rounds. The people inside told investigators they were returning to a party when a man started shooting at them. Police described the suspected shooter as a Hispanic male who was unknown to the vehicle's occupants.
Officers carried out a safety sweep of the house and the surrounding area to make sure there were no victims. The department said there does not appear to be an ongoing threat to the community as detectives canvass the neighborhood for evidence and witnesses, according to a press release from the Brighton Police Department.
No arrests yet
CBS News Colorado reported that there were no injuries and no arrests at the time of its latest update, and that officers said the suspect had already left the area before they got there. The outlet also noted that officers in the vicinity heard the gunfire and later discovered the vehicle that had been hit multiple times. Investigators told CBS they are urging anyone with information to contact Brighton police.
Other recent incidents and community concerns
Brighton’s own news feed shows this was not the first late-night shooting tied to a party in recent months. On Jan. 31, officers responded to another house-party shooting that left multiple people with gunshot wounds and triggered a similar door-to-door investigative canvass. That pattern has stretched resources across the northern Denver suburbs and prompted repeated appeals from police for residents to save any relevant video and come forward with tips. The Brighton Police Department is again asking anyone who may have captured the incident or its aftermath on camera, or who heard or saw anything, to call its tip line so detectives can piece together what happened.
How to help
Anyone who witnessed the shooting or who has video, photos or other information is asked to call the BPD tip line at (303) 655-8740 or contact Brighton police through the city’s online reporting channels. Officials say preserving accurate timestamps and avoiding reposts or edits of raw footage can make it easier for investigators to use that material. Anyone with immediate safety concerns should call 911.
