A lovingly restored 1963 Airstream trailer is now tucked behind Moxie Mercantile in Plaza Midwood, pouring Italian bubbles and spritzes under yellow and white striped umbrellas. The proseccheria-style bar, called Bev, is set up as an open-air, café-like patio at 2008 Commonwealth Ave and is designed to feel like a tiny corner of Europe in Charlotte. It is a compact, low-key spot geared toward pre-dinner drinks, afternoon flights and long, chatty hangs.
Where it is and what they pour
As reported by Axios Charlotte, Bev opened this past winter in the back lot at 2008 Commonwealth Ave beside Moxie Mercantile. The bar pours about a dozen Proseccos by the bottle and seven by the glass, offers four-pour flights for $30 and mixes spritzes alongside bottled options such as Birra Moretti. Glasses generally run around $11 to $14, bottles land roughly between $34 and $90, and seating is first-come, first-served.
The backstory
Owner Michelle Castelloe, who also runs Moxie Mercantile, brought the idea home after traveling through Italy’s Prosecco region and named the project for her godmother, according to Unpretentious Palate. Castelloe described Bev to the outlet as “strictly a Proseccheria,” with one Italian beer on offer alongside Prosecco-based cocktails, a setup that leans hard into the aperitivo mindset.
Bev's setup and claim
Per the Bev Proseccheria website, the bar bills itself as “America's first proseccheria” and operates from a meticulously restored 1963 vintage Airstream that keeps the menu simple and firmly focused on bubbles. The site highlights an open-air layout with garden-fresh mixers and umbrella-shaded tables meant for lingering over drinks rather than sitting down to a full meal.
Seats, snacks and extras
The patio leans into a European feel, with yellow and white striped umbrellas shading sintered-stone tables and classic bistro chairs, according to QC Life. Moxie’s own posts note that Bev pairs its bubbles with small savory bites such as crostini and Italian potato chips, and that a second trailer on-site is used for extra seating or private events.
Why it fits Plaza Midwood
The concept slots neatly into Plaza Midwood’s patio-heavy bar scene and the neighborhood’s social district, which allows permitted to-go containers within a defined area and has helped spur more outdoor projects, according to the City of Charlotte. City officials and local merchants say the social district has boosted foot traffic and created space for low-key, weather-dependent pop-ups and lot-based bars like this one.
Practical details
Bev operates primarily as an outdoor, walk-up bar with a seasonal feel. Listed hours are Thursday and Friday from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday from noon to 8 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. The layout works best for shorter visits or sharing bottles and flights with friends, and the team suggests arriving early on busy weekend afternoons.
