Law enforcement in Castle Rock is searching for a convicted child sex offender who, according to prosecutors, cut off his court-ordered ankle monitor and disappeared just as his trial wrapped up. The GPS device was later discovered in a dumpster near his home, and deputies are now treating him as a fugitive while asking neighbors to stay vigilant.
Jorge Campos, 42, was found guilty Friday in Douglas County Court on five counts of sexual assault after a four-day trial that followed his 2024 arrest, according to prosecutors. The case centers on allegations that Campos repeatedly assaulted his girlfriend's daughter beginning in 2021, when prosecutors say the victim was 11, and that a medical exam later showed evidence of victimization.
Campos did not show up for the final day of his trial, prosecutors said, but the proceedings continued without him and ended in a conviction. He now faces mandatory prison time at sentencing and could receive a punishment as severe as life in prison, according to CBS Colorado.
Prosecutors Respond
District Attorney George Brauchler did not mince words, describing Campos in a prepared statement as “a child rapist on the loose” and accusing him of preying on a child, then running from accountability. Deputy District Attorney Brynn Chase said the young victim “was violated, villainized, and voiceless,” but still showed notable strength throughout the case.
Both comments came in written statements released by the DA's office and reported by CBS Colorado.
Case Handled by the 23rd Judicial District
The prosecution is being overseen by the 23rd Judicial District, which covers Douglas, Elbert and Lincoln counties. The district lists its Castle Rock office and phone number on its official site. It directs residents seeking contact information or case records to its online resources and docket search tools, as outlined on the 23rd Judicial District website.
