High school offers for fall 2026 have dropped across New York City public schools, and the MySchools tabs are already getting a workout. Families are logging in to see where their students landed, eyeing not only their main offer but also the all-important waitlists. If a student did not get a top choice, families can add themselves to other programs' waitlists, watch their spot move in real time, and accept or decline any new offers that pop up. The tradeoff between a guaranteed seat and a hoped-for upgrade is sending many parents back to the portal again and again.

Where to view offers and what comes next
Last Thursday the Department of Education released high school offers for students entering in fall 2026. Families can see results on their MySchools dashboard, wait for mailed offer letters, or contact their child's school or a Family Welcome Center for help, according to the NYC Department of Education. The DOE is also running virtual information sessions with multilingual interpretation to walk families through next steps. MySchools will continue to show real-time updates as offers are accepted and waitlists move.
How to accept, decline or respond to a waitlist offer
When a school moves to a student on its waitlist, that offer will appear in the Pending Waitlist Offers section of the family's MySchools account. From there, you can accept or decline the offer, according to Enrollment Support. Accepting a new waitlist offer automatically changes any previously accepted offer to declined, and each waitlist offer only remains pending until the program's stated response deadline. If anything looks off or you need help restoring an offer, families are directed to email [email protected] for assistance.
Summer Rising and other deadlines
The city is also reminding families that the Summer Rising application is open from March 3 through March 27 and can be submitted through MySchools. The program is free for eligible students and operates sites across the city, so families juggling high school decisions and waitlists may want to lock in their Summer Rising preferences while everything else is still in motion. The MySchools calendar also lists local orientations and enrollment-related events.
Quick tips for families
Experts and previous coverage note that waitlist movement can be limited, so families are urged to have a solid backup plan instead of betting everything on a late opening, according to reporting from Chalkbeat. Check MySchools often, keep an eye on email and phone messages from schools, and be ready to accept a strong offer if it fits your student and family needs. If the process feels overwhelming, you can call the MySchools help line or visit a Family Welcome Center for one-on-one support.
For help setting up accounts or resolving problems, families can call the MySchools support line at 718-935-2009 or visit a Family Welcome Center. Hours and locations are listed on the contact page on MySchools. For specific high school enrollment questions, families can also review the DOE's high school admissions page or email [email protected] for support.
