Kampos Taverna has slipped into Bay Ridge with the kind of quiet confidence that suggests it plans to stick around. The new Greek restaurant, rooted in the flavors of the island of Chios, started service on 3rd Avenue in late February and marked the moment with a grand opening party on March 11. Owners Paris and Nikolas Moyseos and Michael Bois are positioning it as a family-style taverna built around shared plates, island ingredients and decor brought in from Greece.
As reported by The National Herald, the name Kampos comes from the village of Kampos on Chios, an area known for its citrus orchards, and the menu leans into those roots. The kitchen has been turning out sweets like portokalopita and a mastiha flavored panna cotta, and chef Dimitris Gatsos puts out a new dessert every day. On the drinks side, diners find an all Greek wine list, beers from Chios and a set of specialty cocktails, including a mastiha spritz, a Kampos Sunrise made with ouzo from Chios and a Dirty Greek built around kalamata olives stuffed with feta. The founders told the paper they plan to add a mastiha flavored ice cream and open an outdoor backyard dining area once the weather warms up.
Where It Sits On 3rd Avenue
The taverna occupies the 3rd Avenue Bay Ridge block that previously housed Blue Door Seafood Taverna. According to the restaurant's site, Kampos Taverna operates in the evenings and takes reservations through Resy. Blue Door closed in May 2025, which left the space open for the new owners, as noted by Brooklyn Eagle.
Design, Art And Chian Ingredients
Co owner Michael Bois said the team was aiming for “an authentic Greek and Chian taverna,” and they did not skimp on the details. The owners imported tables and much of the decor from Greece, and they even brought in a Chian stone called thymianoustiko from Thymiana on the island, according to The National Herald. The dining room also features a mural by artist Eleni Misetzis, who was on hand for the grand opening party.
When To Go And What To Expect
The restaurant's website lists evening hours and offers a reservations link, and walk ins may also be accommodated on slower nights, per Kampos Taverna. The owners say they see the place as a gathering spot for families, friends and date nights, with the menu focused on shareable plates and an all Greek wine list. Diners can expect island forward flavors, a lineup of specialty cocktails and a different dessert each night from Gatsos.
