Starting today, it is going to cost a good bit more to leave your car at Charlotte Douglas International Airport. Daily maximum parking rates are climbing across most lots and decks, with the biggest jolt landing on the Daily Deck that many Charlotte travelers lean on for quick overnight trips.

What’s changing and who pays more

Beginning today, CLT will bump daily maximums for several parking options. The Daily Deck jumps from $20 to $28, Express Deck self-park moves to $24, the Hourly Deck climbs to $35 and valet rises to $50 per day. Both Long Term lots will top out at $14, and Express Deck Preferred stays at $24. The airport laid out the full schedule and its reasoning in a press release, according to CLT Airport.

"We know parking is an important part of the travel experience," CLT Chief Business and Innovation Officer Ted Kaplan said, explaining that the higher rates are intended to let the airport "reinvest in parking facilities to enhance safety, infrastructure, reliability and the overall passenger experience." The release also notes the last rate change was in November 2023 and frames this update as an operational reinvestment, per CLT Airport.

Booking, free 15-minute window and capacity

All lots and decks except valet remain free for the first 15 minutes, which still gives drivers a short grace period for quick pickups and drop-offs. Travelers are being urged to reserve parking in advance, since roughly 16,000 of CLT’s roughly 25,000 spaces can be booked online. The airport says about 65% of parking is now reserved digitally and its Royalty Program has more than 250,000 members. Local coverage advises checking availability and booking early to avoid sold-out decks, according to WSOC-TV.

Why regular parkers are grumbling

Frequent parkers tell local outlets that the latest hikes stack on several prior increases and can turn a routine weeklong trip into a serious extra line item. That trend, along with the frustration it has sparked among people who park at CLT often, has been tracked in regional reporting that followed multiple rounds of price bumps over the last few years. Those stories point out that the percentage jumps have been especially large for some parking products, per Yahoo News.

Ways to limit sticker shock

If you have travel on the calendar, it may be worth running the numbers before you toss the keys in the cupholder. Compare the new Daily Deck price with a long-term lot or a round-trip rideshare, since the long-term lots still come in cheaper than the closer decks for multi-day stays. Reserving online through parkCLT.com or the CLT app can lock in a rate and guarantee a space during busy windows, a strategy highlighted by travel guides, according to VisaVerge.

The new daily maximums will be in place beginning today, and airport officials say the additional revenue is earmarked for parking safety and infrastructure work. Travelers are encouraged to check availability and reserve spots in advance through the CLT app or parkCLT.com, as reported by WSOC-TV.
