What started as another late-night Sunday crowd at a downtown Austin club ended with gunfire, police photos on social media, and detectives practically begging people to scroll their camera rolls.
Last Wednesday the Austin Police Department (APD) released images and asked the public for help after a shooting at Club 420 that left one man wounded. The incident happened early Sunday morning, and while the victim survived with non-life-threatening injuries, investigators say they now need witnesses to share any video or photos that could help crack the case.
Police release timeline and location
In a news release from the City of Austin, APD says officers were called around 3:36 a.m. Sunday to reports of a shooting at Club 420, located at 501 Neches Street. When they arrived, they found an adult man with a gunshot wound.
Officers provided first aid at the scene until Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services arrived and took the victim to a local hospital, where he was treated for injuries that authorities described as non-life-threatening. APD lists the case number as 26-0600287 and is urging anyone who knows what happened to come forward.
What investigators say
According to APD's preliminary findings, a fight broke out inside the club before an unidentified person pulled out a gun and fired at least one shot, hitting the victim. No suspect has been identified and no arrests have been made, as reported by FOX 7 Austin.
Detectives say they are especially interested in any cell phone video or photos from inside or outside the club around the time of the shooting. If you were nearby and your phone was out, police would very much like to see what it captured.
How to submit tips
APD is asking witnesses to upload photos and videos through the department's online evidence portal, as outlined in the City of Austin release. Tipsters can also call the APD Aggravated Assault Unit directly at 512-974-4429.
Information can be provided anonymously through Capital Area Crime Stoppers, and a reward of up to $1,000 is available for tips that lead to an arrest. The department's release includes direct links for uploading digital evidence and for additional case details.
A tense night for downtown
The Club 420 shooting unfolded roughly two hours after a separate mass shooting on West Sixth Street that left multiple people dead and more than a dozen injured, according to the Houston Chronicle. That earlier attack drew a massive multi-agency response and prompted an FBI investigation.
Officials are asking the public to share any footage that could help with either downtown case. With festival season approaching and crowds only expected to grow, the back-to-back incidents have shoved questions about safety in the entertainment district back into the local spotlight.
Anyone with information about the Club 420 shooting can contact APD's Aggravated Assault Unit at 512-974-4429 or submit material through the department's evidence portal. Crime Stoppers accepts anonymous tips at 512-472-8477. APD says the investigation remains active and detectives are continuing to chase down leads.
