Columbus starts the day on a gray note, with clouds hanging around and temperatures in the mid-40s, along with a light west breeze. Skies are expected to brighten through the afternoon with a high near 60°F, and tonight stays mostly clear with lows around 41°F. You will still want a jacket once that evening breeze kicks in.
Midweek Storm Threat
A strong storm system is set to move in Tuesday into Wednesday, bringing an increasing threat of heavy rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds. Forecasters at the National Weather Service in Wilmington warn the system could deliver downpours, gusts in excess of 40 mph and localized flooding, with some areas picking up a quarter to a half inch of rain in quick bursts. Temperatures are expected to jump into the mid-70s on Tuesday before plunging from the 70s to the 20s and 30s late Wednesday, allowing a late-night flip from rain to wet snow.
Wednesday Into Thursday Flip
Wednesday looks warm, with a high near 74°F and a high chance of showers and thunderstorms, as winds gust around and above 30 to 40 mph at times. That rapid temperature drop late Wednesday will change precipitation from rain to wet snow overnight into Thursday, which could make the early-morning commute a bit slippery in spots. The main issues to watch will be heavy downpours, gusty winds and a quick, sharp turn to much colder conditions.
Plan Ahead
