A man was found shot to death Saturday evening on the 3900 block of East César Chávez Avenue in unincorporated East Los Angeles, and sheriff’s homicide detectives kept the street taped off late into the night as they tried to piece together what happened.
The shooting was reported at about 7:47 p.m., and the man was pronounced dead at the scene. Deputies initially released only the basics as they canvassed the neighborhood and worked the crime scene, holding back the victim’s name, any suspect description and a possible motive.
The Sheriff’s Information Bureau confirmed the time and location in a brief notice to local media, according to MyNewsLA. Deputies declined to provide other immediate details while detectives continued processing evidence.
Investigators Seek Tips
Detectives from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau are leading the investigation and are asking anyone with information to contact the unit at 323-890-5500, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. For those who prefer to remain anonymous, officials direct tipsters to L.A. Regional Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477 or the online portal at lacrimestoppers.org.
Detectives were seen going door to door, canvassing nearby homes and collecting surveillance and other potential evidence as they worked to reconstruct the moments leading up to the gunfire.
Violence Along Cesar Chávez
The section of East César Chávez Avenue where the man was killed has seen deadly violence before. In April 2025, a slaying that drew public appeals for information rattled the community. More recently, local television coverage documented a February 2026 shooting nearby that left multiple people wounded and at least one person dead, according to FOX 11. Neighbors told reporters they were on edge as detectives worked each new case.
The sheriff’s office is urging residents with dashcam, doorbell or other surveillance footage from around the time of Saturday’s shooting to preserve any recordings and contact investigators. This story will be updated as authorities release more details.
