Deep Ellum is about to get a little louder and a lot more caffeinated. CoffeEmos, an emo-themed coffee shop from owner Francisco Gonzalez, is slated to open this April, blending a daytime espresso operation with a small stage for live music and late-night events. The concept leans hard into nostalgia, with emo-inspired menu names and a "wall of memories" where guests can pin old IDs from their scene days. The shop is moving into the former Urban Venue at 3114 Swiss Ave. and will add a front outdoor area plus a turfed back patio to the neighborhood's cafe options.
Gonzalez, who describes himself as an emo fan of roughly 20 years, told CultureMap he wants the soundtrack to match the theme. Instead of the usual mellow coffee shop playlist, he plans on pop-punk and emo. "When you go to a coffee shop, you think you'll find chill music. I do better, with pop-punk and emo music," he said, adding that he hopes regulars will "make this store their own," as reported by CultureMap Dallas.
What to expect
CoffeEmos plans to start with daytime hours from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily, serving classic espresso drinks alongside emo-titled specialties in the roughly $6 to $8 range. Among the early menu ideas are the mango-matcha lemonade "Ocean Avenue," the lavender London fog "Hear You Me," and a banana horchata dubbed "The Ghost of You." Gonzalez also envisions using the back patio for shows and meet-and-greets as the event program grows, per CultureMap Dallas.
Roaster and aesthetic
CoffeEmos' website lists 3114 Swiss Avenue as its home base and teases an events calendar that includes an "Emo Acoustic Night Extravaganza" along with an emo art showcase. The cafe plans to pour beans from Richardson-based Eiland Coffee Roasters, a small-batch local roaster with its own retail storefront in Richardson. Why Deep Ellum?
Deep Ellum's legacy as Dallas's live music and arts hub makes it a natural setting for a coffee shop that centers both community and sound. Coverage of the neighborhood has highlighted its ongoing renaissance, with venues, murals, and nightlife continuing to define the area. CoffeEmos aims to plug directly into that atmosphere rather than sit on the sidelines. See D Magazine.
