Downtown Los Angeles is in for a toasty Sunday, with temperatures climbing into the low 80s under mostly clear skies and a light southwest breeze through the afternoon. Coastal neighborhoods and the immediate shoreline may wake up to patches of low clouds and fog that should thin by midmorning, while gusty offshore winds are expected to kick in tonight and linger into early Tuesday. Expect cooler starts, breezy evenings, and a few slowdowns on coastal commutes.
Afternoon Sun And Temperatures
Highs in Downtown LA are forecast near 82°F on Sunday, then slip to about 73°F on Monday before a mild warmup later in the week, according to the National Weather Service Los Angeles/Oxnard. Across the basin, afternoons will be dry and warm, a solid setup for errands and outdoor plans, with some inland spots running a few degrees hotter than the city center. If you are working outside during peak sun hours, keep water close and pace yourself.
Foggy Mornings, Coastal Commute
A Dense Fog Advisory is in effect for parts of the Central Coast through 10 a.m. PST, and low clouds could creep into coastal Los Angeles neighborhoods before clearing later in the morning. Drivers along Pacific Coast Highway and on the 405 near the shore should build in extra time when visibility drops, while inland freeways are expected to clear quickly as the marine layer lifts. Low clouds are likely to return to some coastal valleys tonight into Monday morning.
Evening Winds Pick Up
A Wind Advisory runs from 6 p.m. Sunday, March 1, through 3 a.m. Tuesday, March 3, for portions of the coastal and interior mountains, with localized gusts up to about 45 mph possible in canyons and passes. Sundowner-style offshore gusts could make hill and canyon roads tricky for high-profile vehicles, and mariners should be ready for Small Craft Advisories and choppy seas starting Monday. Winds are expected to broaden and strengthen midweek, so breezy to gusty conditions will likely hang on into the end of the week.
What To Do
Tie down patio furniture, secure trash cans and give large vehicles extra room on exposed stretches of roadway during the strongest gusts. Boaters should check local marine forecasts before leaving the harbor and steer clear of exposed waters when advisories are in effect.
